Pure Pit Balm All Natural Deodorant
After a year of research and experimentation and “demands” from my customers I can finally offer what I consider one of the best all natural deodorants on the market! For most people one swipe will do the trick so this 4 oz. container will last for months (your typical push up or twist up container is only 2.65 oz). The aroma is a very light fresh herbal scent that can be used by both men and women. It is a little thicker than your commercial products so you won’t need but the tiniest amount on your two finger tips to swipe your underarm. You may think you are using too little but believe me a little bit is all you will need! AND don’t wash anything away should you have an residue left on your fingers! Instead use it on your elbows or knees because it is a salve (and it smells good)!
Shea Butter – Containing vitamins and fatty acids makes Shea Butter extremely moisturizing for your skin, contains properties that can be anti-inflammatory and aids in the natural collagen production of the skin.
Coconut Oil – Coconut oil is a powerful inhibitor of a large variety of pathogenic organisms, from viruses to bacteria to protozoa, largely due to its naturally high Lauric acid content. When absorbed by the body and has a host of other associated health benefits. It is also moisturizing and soothing to the skin.
Baking Soda – Most people will buy this off the shelf for everyday use not realizing that some do contain Aluminum! Aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s and other health related issues. We use Baking Soda that is Aluminum FREE. Baking Soda in deodorant helps to prevent bacteria which prevents smell. It can also absorb moisture and help to preserve other ingredients in deodorant. Some people might find it irritating if they have sensitive skin so we try to use the least amount possible in our recipe without compromising the benefits.
Arrowroot – This plant was given its name as it was used to treat wounds from poison arrows. Native Caribbean Arawak people made arrowroot part of their diet for its amazing healing benefits. Because of its texture it can help absorb moisture as well.
Bentonite Clay – Has the ability to bind and eliminate toxins in the body.
Beeswax – Very little is used and this is to help bind all ingredients together.
Vitamin E – Contains antioxidant properties that everyone needs. It can also protect the skin against cell mutation in the sun and pollution. Vitamin E is also considered an anti-inflammatory, so it calms and hydrates sensitive skin.
Lavender Essential Oil - The health benefits of lavender essential oil are many but we use it in our deodorant not only for its aroma but its ability to eliminate nervous tension, relieve pain, disinfect the skin, and enhance blood circulation.
Rosemary Essential Oil - Contains antimicrobial and antiseptic qualities that make it beneficial in in use as topical application. Blended with Lavender makes for a very aroma.
Tea Tree Essential Oil – Has natural antibacterial and antibiotic properties that have made it widely used in tinctures and skin products.
Pro Biotic – Keeps the “bad” bacteria in check! Because “all natural” deodorants do not use chemicals or preservatives of any kind it can sometimes lead to fungal or yeast issues in some pits. Adding a good pro-biotic can help keep these maladies at bay!
Detoxing your Pits
If you have been using commercial deodorant it is advised to detox your armpits before using an all-natural deodorant. This is because your pit pores are more than likely clogged with all the nasty ingredients that can be used in other products such as Aluminum, Phthalates – Found in plastic that can cause hormone imbalance and even infertility, Propylene glycol–which is antifreeze! Formaldehyde- a known carcinogen that is used to kill germs. Well I guess so, but I don’t want it on my skin or absorbed into my body! Parabens- Parabens have been found in tissue biopsied from breast cancer as well as all the other nasty ingredients in commercial deodorants! That is scary! This is because everything is absorbed through your skin. You have many lymph nodes in and around your armpits that are a pathway to your beast tissue so it is not surprising that they are finding these ingredients in what many think contribute to breast cancer itself.
Put in a plastic or glass bowl with a wooden spoon (do not use stainless, copper or any metal) 1 tablespoon Bentonite Clay (you can find this at any health food store) ,1 teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar (or regular Vinegar) and about ½ teaspoon distilled water. It should look like a soft pudding. You can add a few more drops of distilled water as necessary to get consistency. Swab under your arms and leave for about 2-5 minutes gradually increasing to 15-20 mins over the course of 5-7 days. I prefer to do this in the evening since I take my shower at night and can rinse it off then. If at any time it causes irritation STOP immediately. You can always use just vinegar if needed. Detoxing will not only help rid your pits of toxins but will then help your amazing new deodorant work even better!
*This is not an Antiperspirant. You need to sweat. It is your body’s natural cooling system.
*Keep in cool dry place to extend the life of this product. Do not allow cats to lick this product. Essential oils can be deadly to felines.
"C.J., I must say I was skeptical about the Pit Balm and put off trying it. It’s been 2 weeks since I started using it and I am loving this product! I should never have doubted! I have also been detoxing my armpits for two weeks also. I am telling everyone about this fantastic product! It should be on every shelf-Whole Foods, Health Market, Publix, HEB, Sprouts Farmers Market etc. You really hit the mark on this one!
Thank you! You are a genius!"
"I met you at the Apopka Art and Foliage Festival on Sunday. I was the guy, if you remember, who has made my own coconut oil based deodorant in the past. After a few months I was red, raw etc.. You told me to email you about your Pit Balm with any feedback or issues since we talked about my making my own before..
Well, I love it. It has not irritated me in the least. It is effective in keeping odor away for a day and it smells fantastic. I bought the detox, but due to not being home every day I didn't get to do it all yet. I am a flight attendant and get hot and perspire on the plane A LOT and the deodorant I've been using which I couldn't remember the name of is "Alvera". It was the cleanest I could find. It works, but not nearly as well as your balm and I know your balm is pure.
It was nice to meet you and I am so glad to have come across your Pure Pit Balm."
